Harrington Library Consortium Member Library Resources


The Harrington Library Consortium is one of the most unique, innovative, and futuristic projects in the library world. The innovative feature of the project is that the resources of the Consortium are being made available to the diverse libraries of the area through a shared database. HLC is on the cutting edge of development in two ways. HLC was the first network in the United States to include diverse libraries in a shared environment, and the HLC patron card is reported to be the first accepted as a universal library card.

SchoolCenter PictureTexShare is a cooperative program designed to improve library service to Texans. This wonderful resource enables participating libraries to offer a broader range of materials and services than any single library can provide. It is a program of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

Public libraries that belong to one of the regional library systems in Texas are members of TexShare and academic institutions that meet the definitions in Education Code 61.003 are eligible for membership.

  • Full Spanish Speaking Service: Spanish-speaking tutors are offered coextensively (same subjects and hours of availability) with our English-speaking tutors.

SchoolCenter PictureDownloadable audio books provides HLC member librariesOverDrive Media Console is proprietary media player software developed by OverDrive, Inc. for use with its download services for library, schools, and retailers. The Windows Media Player-based software allows users to download, organize, and listen to audiobooks, music, and video either borrowed from a library that uses OverDrive download services or purchased from an online retailer whose content is supplied by OverDrive. The software is engineered for audiobook listening, with navigation and accessibility features, burning options, and mobile device transfer wizards.
